YAYASAN MR. D.I.Y., in partnership with Skuad Pemburu Ikan Asing, successfully carried out the “Hapuskan Ikan Bandaraya” programme with the active participation of 70 dedicated volunteers. This environmental initiative aimed to control the population of the invasive ikan bandaraya (suckermouth catfish), a species that poses a serious threat to local aquatic ecosystems.

Known for its high survival rate and ability to thrive in polluted waters, the ikan bandaraya feeds on organisms found at the riverbed, including the eggs of native fish species. Its presence disrupts the natural food chain and threatens the biodiversity of our rivers. As such, this species should not be released into public water bodies.

Through this effort, volunteers managed to catch 258 kilograms of ikan bandaraya from the waterway. This significant achievement underscores YAYASAN MR. D.I.Y.’s continued commitment to environmental conservation and to raising public awareness of the harm invasive species cause to local ecosystems and water resources.
